I am directed by the Minister of Health to refer to his letter of the 21st November last, and to the Colonial Office Memorandum of the 25th October last (33822/34) regarding the recognition of an Official Certificate under the proposed Public Health (Imported Food) Amendment Regulations, 1934, for lard exported from Hong Kong, and to state that it is now found to be impracticable to arrange that the Regulations should come into force on the 1st March, 1935, as originally intended. The date of operation of the Amendment Regulations proposed

to be made by the Department of Health for Scotland will be similarly postponed.

I am to suggest that a notification of the postpone- ment of the date of operation of the Regulations should be sent to the Governor of Hong Kong, and that he should also be informed that due notice will be given before the Regulations actually come into force. In the meantime, it is desirable to proceed with the consideration of applications for the recognition of Official Certificates under the proposed Regulations and a reply to the enquiry contained in the Minister's letter of the 21st November should not, therefore, be delayed.

The Under Secretary of State,

Colonial Office,

Downing Street,

S.W.1.

I am, Sir,

Your obedient Servant,

Lis defend

L. Infield
